SAŽETAK /ABSTRACT:

This paper reviews image and face recognition as one of the most influential application areas of contemporary artificial intelligence and computer vision. The work outlines the typical processing pipeline, from image acquisition and preprocessing to feature extraction, classification of metods, and post-processing, with emphasis on the shift from hand-crafted descriptors toward data-driven deep learning. Special attention is given to face recognition recognition, since these tasks combine high practical value with complex technical and ethical constraints. The paper discusses the role of training data (quantity, diversity, and annotation quality), the impact of model selection (e.g., convolutional neural networks), and the growing importance of deployment in real-world environments such as security, industrial quality control, and mobile applications. In addition, the paper briefly addresses reliability challenges (bias, robustness to illumination/pose changes, and false positives), as well as the need for transparent validation and responsible use. The presented overview positions image and face recognition as a leading trend that continues to shape AI development, while indicating directions for further improvement through better datasets, stronger evaluation protocols, and edge-AI optimization.
