SAŽETAK /ABSTRACT:
This paper examines the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in contemporary society, with a particular focus on its application in education and the importance of its ethical use. The aim of the study was to investigate the extent to which high school students are prepared for the responsible and ethical use of these technologies, as well as how they currently use them in both everyday life and educational contexts. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, through six focus groups involving a total of 52 second- and fourth-year students attending a gymnasium. The results indicate that students possess a developed awareness of ethical norms and can clearly distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behavior when using AI. However, it was observed that students primarily use these technologies independently, without adequate guidance from teachers or other adults. The findings also suggest that the education system still does not sufficiently recognize the potential of AI as a support for the learning process. In conclusion, the paper highlights the need for the systematic introduction of guidelines, education, and institutional support to foster responsible and ethical use of AI in education.
