ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Although dental poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) possesses distinctive features such as ease of fabrication, cost-effectiveness, and good physical and mechanical properties, these attributes alone are inadequate to impart the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity necessary for everyday application as denture base material. Thus, modification of PMMA is required for the improvement of mechanical performance. This research is focused on the incorporation of 0.5 wt% and 1.0 wt% of Y2O3 (Yttria) into PMMA to improve tensile properties of commonly used two-component denture base. Investigations of mechanical properties have revealed the significant influence of Yttria filler on modulus of elasticity and tensile strength, which were increased by 37.1% and 26.5%, in the composite sample with 1 wt% loading of particles. Results presented in this study revealed the reinforcing potential of Yttria that could find application in other polymers as well.
