ABSTRACT / SAŽETAK:
The surface of two types of alumina, anhydrous (A) and trihydrate (T) alumina, was modified by copper through an ion-exchange procedure. The obtained samples were used as modifiers of carbon paste electrodes, and the electrochemical behavior of the obtained samples was investigated in an alkaline solution in the potential range -1.5 V to +1.5 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The copper-containing samples showed expected peaks corresponding to Cu/Cu(I) and Cu(I)/Cu(II) oxidation, although higher currents were obtained for anhydrous alumina. The additional peak at high anodic potential was recorded and ascribed to the formation of metal oxy/hydroxide. The influence of the cathodic limit of the potential scan on the current of this peak was investigated. The response of copper containing alumina electrode in the presence of glutamic acid was tested.
