ABSTRACT / SAŽETAK:

Even after 100 years of study, the mechanism of one of the simplest chemical oscillators (Bray- Liebhafsky (BL) reaction) still remains under great scientific debate. A better insight in to the reaction mechanism could be accomplished by non-chemical perturbations of the reaction dynamics. With this regard, in the present investigation, we examined effect of microwave (MW) field on the oscillatory evolution of BL reaction. We have found that a MW field of 188W emitted power, under isothermal conditions at 59 oC, disturbs the coherence of processes involved leading to irregular oscillations with significantly smaller amplitudes. Obtained results indicate that applied MW field inhibits quenching of oscillations and keeps the whole process in the state characterized with higher oxygen production (e.g. oxidation branch).
