SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:
The article examines the significant role of Darya Dontsova’s popular literature in university-level Russian language instruction for Polish students. The primary goal is to analyze her novels as effective didactic material, demonstrating their contribution to language development and familiarizing students with colloquial Russian. The study also highlights their value as a source of information on Russia’s realities, culture, and mentality, fostering linguistic and cultural proficiency. Dontsova’s novels are valuable learning tools. They provide a rich source of contemporary, colloquial Russian, significantly expanding vocabulary and language skills. Students learn standard phrases and communicative constructions. These novels offer a unique perspective on Russian culture, history, and mentality, depicting daily life and traditions. Reading this literature in the original greatly enhances language acquisition by immersing students in the narrative, making learning more natural. This fosters deeper retention by encouraging contextual meaning inference.
The text highlights a project where five groups of four third-year Russian philology students, enrolled in a zero-level Russian language course, conducted a semester-long analysis of Dontsova’s novels. They reconstructed Soviet reality from the 1970s and 1980s. This study underscored popular literature’s potential in language education.
