САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

Attentional focusing, a key cognitive function, plays a vital role in children’s holistic development and well-being. This study explores its significance and connection to factors such as nutrition, physical activity and emotional health. Using a 14-item questionnaire, 116 parents from northeastern Slovenia assessed the attentional behaviors of their children aged 5 to 9. Th  sample was non-random and based on convenience sampling. Results showed that “Project Engagement” stood out, reflecting children’s strong involvement in hands-on tasks. “Drawing Concentration” and “Task Persistence” also indicated consistent focus during structured activities like coloring or tidying up. However, higher distraction levels were noted in “Distraction During Stories” and “Distraction by Noise”, pointing to challenges with auditory stimuli. The weakest area was “Switching Tasks.” No significant differences were found based on age or gender. The study highlights prevalent attentional patterns in the sample and identifies both strengths and areas requiring support. These findings may guide future efforts to promote optimal developmental outcomes.
