SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

Ensuring optimal indoor air quality (IAQ) in educational spaces is essential for student comfort, concentration, and learning outcomes. This study evaluates air-conditioning control strategies in Amphitheater A at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, focusing on ventilation efficiency, energy consumption, and thermal comfort. Using IDA ICE simulations, two real-life scenarios were analyzed: a full day of lectures and an exam session. Three ventilation strategies—Constant Air Volume (CAV), Variable Air Volume (VAV) with temperature control, and VAV with CO₂ control—were compared. Results indicate that while CAV maintains acceptable air quality, it leads to excessive energy consumption due to fixed airflow rates. VAV systems optimize airflow based on demand, reducing energy usage while maintaining comfort. The temperature-controlled VAV system ensures better thermal stability, whereas the CO₂-controlled VAV system improves IAQ but does not consistently meet temperature set points. Findings highlight the importance of adaptive ventilation strategies in balancing IAQ, energy efficiency, and occupant well-being, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more effective learning environment
