ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:
Medicinal plants can contain various beneficial but potentially toxic trace elements. Traditional preparation and consumption of herbal tea can provide many valuable elements, as well as those harmful to health. In this study, the content of five elements (Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, and Zn) in infusions prepared from Urtica dioica L. leaf samples collected from five different locations in the Republic of Serbia was determined. The infusions were prepared with boiling redistilled water, with an extraction time of 10 minutes. The content of the analyzed elements in the infusions was determined using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Mn and Zn were present in higher concentrations in the infusions, while Ni was below the detection limit of the method. Cu had the highest extraction coefficient values (65.8-24.8%), while Fe had the lowest values (1.11-2.84%). The content of elements obtained in the infusions was used to calculate the daily intake (EDI).
