EFFECTS OF HYDROCHLORIC, HYDROFLUORIC, AND ACETIC ACID ON PIG BONE ESTIMATED BY FTIR, RAMAN, LIBS, AND SEM-EDX

ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

ATR-FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, LIBS, and SEM-EDX methods were used for analyzing the demineralization effect of hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, and acetic acid on pig shoulder bone after an immersion period of 14 days. Chemical changes were accessed through Fourier deconvolution applied in the amide I (1700-1600 cm−1), phosphate (900-1200 cm−1), and carbonate (500-650 cm−1) FTIR regions. Different components in the bone samples, depending on the environment and acids¢ concentration, were identified and provided insight into the mineral and collagen matrix composition. SEM-EDX analysis indicated a significant alteration in the chemical composition of the bone upon acid treatment with a generally preserved morphology of the bone. The results suggested that an increase in acid concentration primarily affected the intensity and the structure of the phosphate band as the phosphate content was more susceptible to demineralization.
