ABSTRACT / SAŽETAK:
This study investigated sources of heavy metal pollution in groundwater near Ladjevci airport in Serbia. Groundwater was collected from 42 monitoring wells and analyzed for nine heavy metals (As, Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu, Ni, Sb, Zn, and Hg). Positive matrix factorization (PMF) receptor model was utilized to identify and apportion groundwater pollution sources. The results showed that traffic and road construction-related activities, agricultural practices, and natural/geogenic processes were the three main factors affecting heavy metal concentration in groundwater. The leading cause of groundwater pollution was natural/geogenic processes, contributing 35.0%, while agricultural practices and traffic and road construction activities contributed 33.3% and 31.7%, respectively.
