SYNTHESIS OF VANILLIN-THIOSEMICARBAZONE IN ETHANOLIC SOLUTION OF CITRIC ACID UNDER MILDER CONDITIONS

ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Synthesis of vanillin-thiosemicarbazone was performed by „greener“ one-pot batch technological procedure in ethanolic solution of citric acid under extremely mild operating conditions (20 °C and 10 min). The obtained compound was identified by elemental microanalysis, as well as FTIR and UV/Vis spectroscopic methods. Since ethanolic solution of citric acid behaved both as catalyst and solvent, the reaction was performed without any additional acidic catalyst. Compared to the conventional H2SO4-catalyzed synthesis in ethanol, the reaction time was shorter and the yield of obtained compound was higher.
