CATALYTIC OXIDATIVE DEGRADATION OF TEXTILE DYES USING COBALT-BASED ALUMINA CATALYSTS

ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Two cobalt-based aluminas calcined at 1000 °C and 1100 °C were investigated in catalytic oxidative degradation of Orange G, Methylene blue, Remazol brilliant blue R, and Basic blue 41 textile dyes. The catalysts were used to activate Oxone® to obtain reactive oxidative species from its active component, peroxymonosulfate. Apart from single dye degradation tests, both catalysts were employed in three binary dye systems containing Orange G and each blue dye. Catalysts were proven efficient both in single and binary dye systems. However, there were significant differences in their behavior in terms of their efficiency, as well as the obtained degradation profiles. It is dominantly the consequence of different cobalt phases formed at 1000 °C and 1100 °C, and to a lesser extent of the structural and textural properties of two catalysts.
