САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:
The FBMC methodology, originally introduced in Central-Western Europe, has been applied in the Core region since 2022, enabling more efficient integration of cross-border capacities through optimized allocation in line with physical grid constraints and market signals. This methodology links transmission capacity with market activities, allowing for better utilization of available infrastructure and increased trading liquidity. It is particularly significant for Southeast Europe, as its future implementation in this region is anticipated, which could further enhance market integration and grid efficiency. This paper examines the availability of cross-border capacities in Southeast Europe during 2024, with a special focus on periods when wholesale electricity prices in this region are significantly higher compared to Central Europe, accompanied by pronounced price spikes. The analysis relies on the results of the Core FBMC (Flow-Based Market Coupling) methodology for selected days and time intervals. The objective is to identify key constraints and their impact on the market, as well as potential improvements in capacity allocation. Special attention is given to electricity exchange flows from Austria and Slovakia towards Southeast Europe, particularly towards Slovenia and Hungary. The analysis focuses on identifying key constraints in cross-border electricity flows and their impact on market exchanges. Particular emphasis is placed on determining the relationship between market prices and grid constraints, as well as factors that could contribute to improving the efficiency of capacity allocation.
