SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

Abstract: The increasing participation of renewable energy sources (RES) in the production mix of modern electricity systems requires advanced converter control technologies, which enable their reliable integration. RES are connected to the grid via inverters, which play a crucial role in this integration. Understanding the different types of inverters, their advantages and disadvantages, allows for efficient management, contributing to the increased stability of the overall system. When multiple inverters are connected to the grid, various types of instability can occur, with frequency ranges from low to high. This paper discusses the instability phenomena introduced by Grid-Following inverters in systems with a high share of RES (wind farms and solar power plants). The paper provides insight into the advantages and disadvantages of this type of inverter compared to Grid-Forming inverters, their impact on system stability, and the intermittent operation of RES. Possible improvements in managing these converters are proposed by introducing additional control circuits that emulate a synchronverter, as confirmed by the simulation results presented.
