SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

The decarbonization of the energy sector in the Republic of Serbia is in progress. In the power sector, the decarbonization process primarily based on the integration of renewable energy sources, mostly wind and solar power, through wind farms and solar power plants. Wind farms and solar power plants are variable energy sources and, as such, present two key challenges for further integration of these power plants into the power system of the Republic of Serbia, short-term balancing and long-term balancing of the electrical power system. This paper presents a conceptual solution for a thermal storage facility planned for construction in Novi Sad, as well as the potential impact of the storage facility on the power system as one of the solutions to the challenges of balancing the power system. Special emphasis is placed on the regulatory barriers to integrating thermal storage facilities into the electrical power system of the Republic of Serbia.
