SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:
Niobium (Nb) electrodeposition from a chloroaliminate molten salt made of an equimolar mixture of AlCl3 and NaCl was carried out at 200 °C onto platinum. Niobium ions were introduced into the melt by anodic dissolution of a Nb electrode, and the electrochemical behaviour was characterized by the cyclic voltammetry. Potentiostatic deposition at 0.005 V vs. Al, within the Al undepotential region, resulted in deposits with significantly increased surface roughness, as recorded by AFM. X-ray diffraction identified metallic Nb and a cubic Nb₃Pt alloy, formed by interdiffusion between the deposited Nb and the Pt substrate. This method for the electrochemical synthesis of the Nb–Pt alloys from the low-temperature melts offers a new way of preparing the Nb-based superconducting materials.
