SUBTERRANEAN POORLY KNOWN SPECIES NIPHARGUS KOSANINI S. KARAMAN, 1943 (FAM. NIPHARGIDAE) FROM NORTHERN MACEDONIA (CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE AMPHIPODA 347)

ABSTRACT / SAŽETAK:

The poorly known subterranean species of the family Niphargidae (Amphipoda, Senticaudata) from Northern Macedonia, Niphargus vodnensis kosanini S. Karaman 1943, is redescribed and figured based on single known specimen, holotype 5.0 mm, collected and partially described by Stanko Karaman from spring near Gradmanci (Katlanovo reg.), Northern Macedonia, on 15.3.1931. The new description and figures show that the taxon kosanini is not similar to the species Niphargus vodnensis S. Karaman, 1943 [loc. typ.: spring on eastern part of Vodno Mt. near Skoplje, Northern Macedonia] but represents a distinct species, Niphargus kosanini S. Karaman, 1943 (new status). The relation of this species regarding some other similar species from Macedonia is discussed.
