SAŽETAK /ABSTRACT:
The laser cutting process is based on melting of the material. By concentrating the high power of the laser beam onto a small surface area of the workpiece material (into a very small spot), a very high energy density is achieved. The material being processed by the laser beam is heated, melted, and even vaporized in a fraction of a second. The removal of this melted and vaporized material is achieved by using an assist gas. The type and pressure of the assist gas depend on the workpiece material and its thickness. Although the laser cutting process seems simple, it is a very complex process, often described as a multi-input, multi-output process. There are many parameters that affect the quality and precision of laser machining, and these are mainly parameters of the laser machining process. The roughness of the machined surface and the cut front line geometry are most often used to evaluate the quality of the laser-machined surface. In the paper, the influence of traverse speed, laser power, laser assist gas pressure and focus position on the machined surface roughness and laser cut front line deviation was analyzed. S235 JRG2 steel was cut with the recommended values of the mentioned machining parameters. The value of only one parameter was varied, while the others were kept constant. It was determined that laser power and traverse speed have the greatest influence on the cut surface quality.
