ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Due to the species’ high heterozygosity and traits’ polygenic inheritance, plum (Prunus domestica L.) breeding is a difficult task. Information on the compatibility and results from different parental cultivars could be very helpful for proper planning of the breeding process. The current study presents results from the breeding program of the Fruit Growing Institute, Plovdiv, for the period 2014-2025. A total number of 73 parental combinations were used to pollinate 46 601 flowers. The average percent fruit set for all combinations was 2.42%. The highest fruit set was recorded for the parental combinations Ortenauer x Stanley (18.99%), Sirma x Jojo (11.06%) and Topgigant Plus x Stanley (9.35%).
