САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

У последњих двадесет година бележи се изузетно велики напредак у дефинисању стандарда заштите здравља у затворима. Ипак пракса Европског суда за људска права и даље документује случајеве у којима су услуге здравствене заштите у затворима до те мере неадекватне да представљају чин нехуманог и деградирајућег понашања према затворенику, док извештаји Европског комитета за превенцију тортуре и нехуманог или понижавајућег поступања или кажњавања указују колико често државе не успевају да организују и одрже потребне стандарде заштите здравља лица која се налазе на издржавању казне затвора. Сазнање да се у простору ЕУ у поређењу са неким другим деловима света свакако много више пажње посвећује како постављању стандарда заштите здравља у затворима тако и механизмима контроле њиховог поштовања, не даје разлога за оптимизам погледу глобалног стања здравља затвореника, посебно имајући у виду глобални обим затворске популације и чињеницу да здравље затвореника на много начина утиче на опште јавно здравље.
