SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

I pored činjenice da je mesazonska služba gotovo jedina koja je sistematski proučena i predstavljena još u prošlom veku, u nauci  su i danas prisutna oprečna i podeljena mišljenja o njenoj suštini. U našem prilogu, pre svega filološkom analizom, a imajući u vidu i istorijski kontekst, prosleđujemo upotrebu termina kojim je označena posrednička služba u vizantijskim izvorima koji su uputni za istraživanje. Cilj analize je da što potpunije i što tačnije utvrdimo značenje naziva μεσάζων (μεσιτεύον) ‘posrednik’ kako bi dobili što jasniju sliku o samoj funkciji i time pridoneli u rešavanju dilema i nepoznanica koja su ostala do danas i oko kojih su mišljenja istraživača i dalje podeljena.
