ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:
Hydrothermal carbons as adsorbents for methylene blue removal from water, were synthesized starting from glucose and sawdust as carbon precursors. In an attempt to improve surface and adsorption properties, obtained hydrothermal carbons were modified by the addition of graphene oxide in the reaction mixture. Characterization of examined samples was performed by scanning electron microscopy, determination of surface area and porosity, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Modification with graphene oxide caused differences in the morphology, specific surface area, and porosity, but did not introduce new groups on the surface of hydrothermal carbons. Although modification improved the adsorption properties of glucose-based hydrothermal carbons, samples obtained from sawdust showed the highest adsorption capacities and faster adsorption process that can be described by pseudo-second order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models.
