SAŽETAK /ABSTRACT:
In the rich tapestry of Serbian history, replete with numerous events of far-reaching consequences, the period from 1875 to 1878, beginning with the Herzegovina Uprising and culminating in the Congress of Berlin, stands out for having resulted in the formal establishment of two essentially Serbian states: the Principality of Serbia and the Principality of Montenegro. This outcome emerged from a complex interplay among national, regional, and broader international factors. It can be properly understood only through a precise and comprehensive analysis of these dimensions and their interrelations. A parallel may be drawn with the present day, as Serbia, amidst the turbulence at all three of the mentioned levels, engages in an utmost struggle to preserve and consolidate its sovereignty and statehood. To achieve that with the desired success, the lessons carried forward from the legacy of the Herzegovina Uprising may prove especially instructive.
