SAŽETAK /ABSTRACT:

The Herzegovina Uprising of 1875 occurred during the rapid advancement in what I refer to as modern international law, or what is currently known as international humanitarian law. By modern international law, I mean numerous international conventions and treaties which began to be signed in 1864 with the first Geneva Conventions. Their goal was to subject states to an overarching supranational legal order. I am convinced that this 19th-century globalism was a cause of the 20th century’s world wars, just as current globalism has also pushed us into wars in the 21st century.
