SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

How to increase the share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the total electricity consumption is a question that has been attracting the attention of the professional public dealing with the energy transition for some time. In order to meet the increasingly frequent needs required by the energy transition, the distribution power system is transitioning from passive to active with a significant number of connected distributed electricity sources. This, among other things, leads to changes in power flows, more challenging system management, increased losses, and the need for investments in the grid in terms of capacity expansion, automation, and digitalization.

Due to the current state of the distribution system, limited capacity for connecting new generation units from variable energy sources, and the lack of balancing reserves, it is essential to focus intensively on improving the power system, as well as developing various market mechanisms that will support the energy transition. One such mechanism, which will be analyzed in this paper, is the concept of peer-to-peer (P2P) supply. The advantages and disadvantages of this concept will be examined, as well as the possibilities for its implementation in the Republic of Serbia. Technical conditions for the application of this mechanism will be considered, along with the need for regulatory changes and the social and economic impact on different market participants affected by the introduction of P2P supply.
