SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

Over the past decades, we have increasingly witnessed extreme weather events as a consequence of global climate change, both around the world and in our region. Events such as exceptionally heavy rainfall followed by droughts and high temperatures, occurrences of so-called „supercell storms,“ short but intense snowfalls accompanied by strong winds are just some of the phenomena that have marked recent years. These weather conditions necessitate a re-evaluation of the technical solutions and methods applied in overhead line projects, particularly in the transmission network.

This paper emphasizes a specific approach to the design of transmission lines, especially steel lattice towers, for areas with severe climatic parameters, taking into account additional loads caused by ice accretion and simultaneous wind occurrence, which are present on transmission lines in operation. In this context, the existing family of 400kV „Y“-type towers and two new „Y“-type towers for „severe“ climatic conditions were considered.

All towers were designed by the engineering company ELEM & ELGO d.o.o., and this paper presents a comparative techno-economic analysis of the application of both tower families in a zone with increased icing conditions.
