САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

The On-load tap changers (hereinafter: OLTC) with the associated motor drive is a maintenance-required device. For OLTC maintenance, the diverter switch type has an accessible part that is in the OLTC vessel, while the selector is in the transformer vessel, and in the selector switch type, the selector and switching part are located in the OLTC vessel, which is separated from the transformer vessel. In both types, mechanical failures of the parts located in the transformer vessel can occur.

There can also be electrical faults or failures, the most common cause of which is overheating of selector contacts or screw connections that can lead to weak or strong electrical discharges. Revisions and overhauls of diverter switch or selector switch parts of the OLTC are performed regularly with the replacement of parts according to the recommendation of the RS manufacturer (if it still exist). The selector part and mechanical parts in the transformer vessel are not inspected, except in the case of opening the transformer. There is a possibility of inspection with oil discharge by entering through the inspection opening of the transformer. For this inspection, a person with complete knowledge of the appearance and operation of the control switch is necessary, and due to the small space for access, it is preferable that the person is of a smaller build. In the last two years, there have been two mechanical failures of the control switches on the selector in the transformer vessel, which were manifested by the fracture of the weakened spot in the diverter switch part of the OLTC. In the paper, both defects are shown and described in detail with the measures taken to determine the type of failure and eliminate the defect with the aim of putting the transformer into operation.
