САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

This paper is a fragment of a larger piece of research dedicated to the way Thomas Hardy reacted in his novels to turbulent changes occurring on various levels in Victorian Britain in the second half of the 19th cen- tury. The following work focuses on this phenomenon as presented in the novel Two on a Tower. We shall consider several manifestations of change – an unusual romantic infatuation between two main characters, a specific space, and, most importantly, the scientific discoveries noted in the work and the resulting new awareness of the world.
