ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

The amide bond is a fundamental and arguably one of chemistry and biochemistry’s most important functional groups. Furthermore, the peptide bond is one of nature’s most ubiquitous amide bond examples. It links amino acids in peptides and proteins, determining the secondary structures formation of proteins and their biological activities. It is well known that typical amides are planar due to the resonance effect, a concept introduced by Pauling nearly a century ago. The vast majority of amides contain planar bonds of approximately 40% partial double bond character as a consequence of the nN to π*C=O conjugation and resonance energy of 15−20 kcal mol−1.
