ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:
Agglomeration of particles in paper coating mixtures adversely affects coating uniformity and print quality. Base paper has a naturally rough and uneven structure; therefore, coatings containing pigments, binders, auxiliaries, and water are applied to improve surface properties. In these mixtures, particles, especially calcium carbonate, form larger agglomerates, and their interactions with the liquid phase influence the paper microstructure. Uneven agglomeration increases surface roughness, which the coating is intended to reduce. This study examines how different CaCO₃/kaolin ratios, binders, and ultrasonic treatment affect agglomeration. Six formulations were analysed using SEM and surface property measurements. Results show higher agglomeration in CaCO₃ rich mixtures and only partial reduction through ultrasonication.
