САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:
Gambling addiction is an increasingly prevalent behavioral disorder among young people and poses a significant public health concern. This study aims to explore the association between family sociodemographic factors and participation in gambling activities. Conducted from November 2023 to February 2025, the research utilized an anonymous online questionnaire addressing participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, gambling habits, and video game use. Analysis focused on sociodemographic data and gambling behavior. Results indicate that participants living with a stepmother (55.6%) or stepfather (63.6%) gamble more frequently compared to those living with their biological mother (49.2%) or father (47.4%). Notably, 33.3% of daily gamblers live with a stepmother, suggesting a significant impact of family structure on gambling frequency. Furthermore, participants with the smallest allowance (up to 1,000 dinars) reported the highest rate (4.7%) of daily gambling. These findings highlight the critical role of family environment, parental influence, and material status in youth gambling behavior, underscoring the need for targeted prevention programs and education on gambling risks.
