САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

The paper presents the results of an assessment of the susceptibility of saturated sandy soil to liquefaction in the area of the National Football Stadium (NFS) in Belgrade. According to SRPS EN 1998-5, a detailed analysis of soil susceptibility to liquefaction is required for the shallow sandy layer at NFS location. Analyses are based on more than 250 SPT tests and 16 high-quality CPTu tests. For the relevant ground acceleration (a = 0.138) and an expected earthquake magnitude of 6.0, analyses were conducted both with and without the additional load from the embankment. In the case without the embankment, several CPTu and SPT tests indicated susceptibility of sandy soil to liquefaction, post-liquefaction settlements and lateral displacements, whereas with the additional load from the embankment, these phenomena were suppressed due to the influence of the overlying layer. The presence of the overburden has a positive effect on reducing the risk of liquefaction, but only after the dissipation of generated excess pore pressures in the surrounding clayey and silty soils.
