Ontological Position of Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory within the Philosophy of Mind

САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

The goal of this paper is situating of Freud’s psychoanalytic theory within the traditional categorization of psychological theories of the philosophy of mind. In this attempt, I will be guided by the categorization of theories about the relationship between mind and body, which was developed by Milanko Govedarica in his book Philosophical Analysis of Irrationality: Altered states of Consciousness and Weakness of Will. After determining which of these traditional theories of the relationship between mind and body best corresponds to Freud’s position, in the concluding part of my paper I will outline the implications of these metaphysical background assumptions for interactive psychoanalysis, by referring to Karl Jaspers view of metaphysics as a cipher language.
