САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

Nearly 200 countries made major energy commitments at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai with the aim of limiting global warming to 1.5°C including the goals of tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030, doubling energy efficiency improvements over this decade, and accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. Aware of the fact that renewables alone are not able to bring world to net-zero emissions by 2050, leaders of more than 20 countries agreed there to triple the installed capacity of nuclear by then, and the same subject was in focus of a recent summit of European leaders in Brussels. In its intention to remain leader in combat against climate change, EU adopted a series of legal documents to ensure a stable financing of its ‘green’ projects aiming to reach net-zero by the middle if this century. Under all these circumstances, the world industry must undergo an unprecedented transition regarding both technology it employs, and energy and critical materials it uses. This paper presents certain details of the above with European practice in focus.
