ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Maize is a key agricultural crop in the Republic of Serbia, with a significant role in agricultural production and foreign trade. Although Serbia achieves high export results in good crop years, the dominant export of raw grain is characterised by low added value. At the same time, Serbia is facing a long-term decline in livestock production, a meat deficit and the need to develop renewable energy sources. This paper aims to analyse maize production and evaluate the economic impacts of its alternative uses, including export, livestock processing, and utilisation as a feedstock for bioenergy production. The results indicate that maize processing through livestock production and selective energy use yield significantly higher added value and more positive development effects than exporting primary resources.
