ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

The paper focuses on the strengthening of a non-seismic RC frame with removed masonry walls, replaced by a steel frame. At present, when such types of structures are subject to structural and architectural evaluation, in most cases they need to be strengthened according to the current seismic design code. One method of seismic strengthening of existing reinforced concrete frames with removed masonry walls uses additional earthquake resistant system such as various types of steel frame. Through local design practices and codes, in different geographical areas, this problem is common to many regions, such as USA, China, Japan, New Zealand and Europe. The category of R/C structure in Bulgaria designed between 1930 and 1970 were traditionally designed for gravity loads alone, without taking into account the seismic provisions. The building is strengthened with a steel frame to comply with the current national seismic code.
