SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:

Biology in the ancient Greek tradition is still a rather neglected topic. For centuries philologically oriented history of Greek philosophy and classical philology in general almost forgot to deal with the biological knowledge of the ancient Hellenic thinkers. The author wishes to remind modern investigators that we ought to put aside only the old “philological” method when examining ancient Greek philosophy. Her main topic is Plato, who in his Dialogs insisted on ability of remembering and recollection as main intellectual specificity in the human beings. The role of memory as Plato sees it, memory being something invariant, is an ingenious anticipation of the modern explanations of the basic building elements of the genetic code, whose sequence preserve the information in the genome.
