САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

This paper provides a holistic assessment of the Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDG) hortfalls and strengths through a comprehensive review of extant literature, spanning a wide array of sources across multiple sectors encompassing different geographical regions. Some of the identified shortfalls, among others, relate to the conflict and incompatibility between socioeconomic development goals and environmental sustainability, the multiplicity and relevance of targets and indicators, together with the issue of striking a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. Conversely, the most notable strengths of the SDGs relate to the fact that they not only promote a worldwide vision for sustainable development but also prioritize goal setting within global governance and policy. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a deep understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities related to sustainable development and to empower practitioners, policymakers, institutions, and governments to gain a profound insight to implement the SDGs worldwide.
