ABSTRACT / SAŽETAK:
Wheat chaff was pretreated by ultrasonic, hydrothermal, and alkali-assisted hydrothermal pretreatments to enhance the enzymatic hydrolysis of arabinoxylan component for xylooligosaccharide production. FTIR analyses showed structural changes in wheat chaff after pretreatments, including delignification, removal of acetyl and phenolic esters, and disruption of lignin–hemicellulose linkages. Hydrolysis of arabinoxylan in pretreated wheat chaff with endo-xylanase produced approx. 120, 290, and 400 mg/g of xylooligosaccharides after ultrasonic, hydrothermal, and alkali-assisted hydrothermal pretreatments, respectively, compared to 100 mg/g from untreated chaff.
