FARM-TO-LABORATORY EVALUATION OF BOVINE BLOOD SAMPLING ERRORS: INTEGRATIVE QUESTIONNAIRE

ABSTRACT / САЖЕТАК:

Preanalytical factors strongly influence the accuracy of bovine blood analyses, encompassing herd management, feeding, sampling, transport, and laboratory processing. As most laboratory errors arise in this phase, assessing preanalytical variability is critical. This study presents a farm-to-laboratory approach using a structured three-part questionnaire to evaluate errors. The 15-question survey targets farmers, field veterinarians, and laboratory veterinarians. Farmer questions address feeding, fasting, lactation stage, body condition, stress, and herd health. Field veterinarians report sampling time, tube type, venipuncture technique, hemolysis prevention, transport, and documentation. Laboratory veterinarians cover centrifugation, serum handling, storage, quality control, calibration, and automation. Responses generate a composite preanalytical risk score (low, moderate, high), enabling identification of critical control points, corrective actions, and improved reliability of dairy cattle metabolic profiling.
