САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:

Higher education is one of the most important areas of any society. Society is developed as much as it has developed the education system, and especially the higher education system. The consequence of a series of global changes is particularly evident in the Western Balkans region. Due to the new situation, all the countries of this region have been in the process of transitional change in the last two decades. In economic cooperation with foreign countries, these countries are oriented primarily to cooperation with industrialized countries of the West, especially with the EU, and accession to the European Union is one of the priorities of all countries in this region. The fact that fewer and fewer benefits are being drawn today from traditional resources such as labor, land and capital, and that the main producers of wealth have become human capital, knowledge and information, has led to revolutionary changes in many fields, especially in higher education. In developed countries, the focus of employee activity is shifting from material processing to information processing, which has a major impact on the education process. Higher education has become a pillar of society and its quality depends on the future of each country. Therefore, for the Western Balkan countries and Republic of Serbia, to enter the European Union to be successful, it is necessary, among other things, to adapt their education systems to European trends, while preserving national and regional relevance.
