Citizenship education aims to help students to understand and respect people with different cultural ties, to respond effectively and respectfully when interacting and communicating, to build positive and constructive relationships, to become aware of and understand assumptions, prejudices, stereotypes, as well as overt and covert discrimination. The research was conducted in the school year 2023-2024 on 50 secondary school students and the research results were analyzed qualitatively. The present research captured the characteristics of the new social and educational reality and clarified the basic principles of intercultural learning and the skills that are necessary for students to develop in order to become active citizens of a multicultural society with a high degree of ethnic and cultural diversity. Activities were carried out aimed at cultivating empathic understanding, respect for diversity, intercultural communication skills and the ability to engage in dialogue. The research results indicated that values and attitudes related to democracy and the rule of law, respect for human rights and social justice education were fostered. Also, through activities students developed the ability of multiple perspectives, the ability of a person to distance himself from his own point of view and take into account the views of other people, to understand and respond to thoughts, beliefs, values and feelings of other people, cultivating the ability to mediate in situations of cultural diversity.
