SAŽETAK / ABSTRACT:
Trauma in general and collective traumata especially have a tendency to be experienced being somehow unaffected by time, being in a way timeless ς making us forget, that the events referred to happened at a certain time and a given place.
Nowadays itχs not debated anymore that important parts of a traumaχs heritage are unconscious. Therefore one might connect this φtimelessnessχ to Freudχs notion that the unconscious does not know about time. Nevertheless this line of thought is not sufficient to explain the intergenerational transmission of trauma. The article tries to explore the special relation of collective trauma to time – in a first step discriminating different types of trauma and then connecting these with different types of memories and different emotional tasks. Emphasis is laid on the adaptive function of emotions and the change of a traumaχs function over time. Some conclusions are made, what types of actions might be helpful/necessary depending on the specific character and stage of a collective trauma.
