САЖЕТАК / ABSTRACT:
This study explores the ethnobotanical heritage of nature-based recreational landscapes in the Šumadija region of Serbia, focusing on the presence of plant-based elements, traditional knowledge, and their role in tourism development. The research was conducted through field surveys, including 38 tourists and 20 service providers. The results indicate that edible and medicinal plants are widely integrated into tourism activities, particularly through gastronomy, herbal beverages, and cultural practices. Traditional knowledge enhances tourist experiences and contributes to the authenticity of the destination. Tourists and service providers identified plant-based gastronomy and local products as the most attractive elements, while educational and wellness activities remain underdeveloped. The findings suggest that ethnobotanical heritage has significant potential to support special interest tourism and promote environmental, cultural, and economic sustainability. Strengthening educational programs and community involvement could further improve tourism offerings and ensure the preservation of traditional plant knowledge in rural landscapes.
